OT; Pontiac Bonneville Power Steering

Today here in OHio 1 degree...my 1992 bonneville with 186,000 miles... Power sterring was really whining for about 20 seconds at startup, then calmed down...did this yesterday also...Is this whining going to be OK if it continues at startup or should I go ahead and replace the pump. Or can I change fluids to something else to make it easier...this is my only car and I cant be without it if the PS breaks... Thanks!
