Dual Wheels on a backhoe

I recently bought a John Deere 2WD 410 Diesel Backhoe. While the pins are a little loose at $9000.00 Cdn. including 500 miles of freight it was in my price range and runs and works well. The problem is at around 18,000 lbs. it sometimes has to go where a tracked machine would be better. Having to claw my way out with the hoe a few times I thought there must be a better solution. After running it by a few oldtimers I decided to put dual wheels on the rear. I had some spacers spun and installed some slightly smaller tires and rims running about 6 p.s.i. air just to to kick in when the machine is on soft ground. As there is no holes or eyebolts on the JD rims I drilled holes and installed eyebolts, connecting the outside rims with J bolts thru pipe welded onto the outside rims. I wouldn't recommend clamps as they are just not as positive as pipe welded onto the rims and locking tabs. The bottom line is the difference is like night and day as the displacement is nearly doubled. Any comments or ideas for wider tires or rims for the front would be appreciated.
