When I saw the title, I expected that the boss was a son-of-a-gun and you wanted to tell him exactly what you think of him- I am glad it is not that way. My son-in-law had worked about 4 years for a real jerk. Big guy who bullied most everyone, but paid rather well. SOL went to community college and got associates degree in machine shop, got job offer (no experience yet) at $4.00 per hour more than the job he had. Told me he was going to tell Harry what he really thought of him. I told him Harry might deck him and certainly would be glad to have him gone. I suggested he tell Harry that he had a job offer that he absolutely could not refuse. Tell Harry thanks for the job opportunity. Tols him to offer to work a notice and if so, be the absolute best employee possible during that time. Harry would kick himself for long time for losing such a good employee- but my SOL would not actually get to see the regret. SOL took my advice. 4 months later, was laid off, and went to Harry who put him back to work. Two weeks later, the new employer called him back to work. When he told Harry, Harry asked him if he would work 4 hours per day while also doing the other job and SOL could choose the hours. Harry never abused him again. SOL did that for a while, saved his money and had $40K cash to put toward his new house. In my youth, I told off a boss, walked out,and he made it tough for me to get hired again. Hope this helps some young person reading this.
