The mechanic placed the chisel on the sheet metal spur side down, and the spur cut a neat slice out of the hood. When he got thru he had a square hole in the hood slightly larger than the muffler flange. They screwed a square patch designed to cover hole, and match contours of the hood with sheet metal screws. If you must cut, a tool designed to cut metal on an air chisel, or a cutting wheel on a Dremmel tool would work. Like the others say, take the hood off and do it right!
