I guess you could hook the pump directly to a switch and just turn it off when you needed water. You wouldn't even need a hydrant because your switch would control the pump directly. What are you going to us the water for?
I suppose you could also also put a pressure switch on the line so that when you opened the valve, the line pressure would drop and the switch would close and close a relay that would turn on the pump. When the valve was shut off the pressure would rise, open the switch, which would allow the relay to close and shut off the pump. Just my two cents.
