If by extended shutdown you mean something like parking it for the winter or 4-6 months- good enough idea, simpler than draining tank on warm engine, then putting in gallon of diesel or JP4 and restarting engine until smokes and stops. Could try Marvel Mystery oil mix. You would have to put in fresh gas anyway after long storage, maybe clean sparkplugs. RN
