It's been a few years since I had to deal with a system like you have, but I remember having to add air about 2 or 3 times a year when I had one. I always just killed the power to the pump, opened a faucet somewhere, and then put the entire contents of a 10 gallon air bubble into the pressure tank, or at least as much as would go in before the pressures equalized. I never drained the tank. Everything would then work just as it should for another 4 to 6 months.
