I have to agree with the other posts.
The 17 rimfire will be the death of the .22 rimfire magnum.
However if you already have a .22 rim fire, just use some CCI stngers or Remington Yellow Jackets.
If you need more for varmints, get an accurate .223 .
If you are starting out without any rimfire rifles, get a 17 .
I have a 350 and 700 yard range here. Most people's eyes do exagerate distances part 100 yards. Those laser rangefinders are cheap now and are a real shocker when showing the true distance.
For 98% of shooters out there, a 300yard shot from a rest on the moose standing broadside is plenty far. More animals get shot at over the top and missed than with shots going too low.
