Danielle, that spring was used with the older controlers that operated from the hydralic brakes of the truck. It controlled how hard the brakes were applied. If it now has one of the more modern inertia controllers it is no longer needed as that contorl is part of the controler itself. If you still have the original hydralic actuated controler the spring goes between a source of 12 volts and the controler itself.
