Price of Steel is sure high! Getting there on Boom

Boy bought the steel for the Boom yesterday and it was around $80.00 I have it fabercated in the shop and all clamped together hope to have most of it welded today. It sure looks neat like a high tech crane instead a low tech boom. Sure would have been easy to just use a heavy peice of Pipe for it instead of Box Steel. Trying to stay light but still strong makes for a lot of gussets and plates. Bet I will have $250.00 into materials alone and 8 hours labor when done but it will look nice. Allready went thru a 4 inch ginder disk making the gussets. But I was able to make it in a way it can go in a 6 inch square box for shipping by UPS not freight truck! UPS has a 9 ft rule but it can't be to wide either. Mark H.
