As I understand it, these symptoms point to a bad ignition switch. Not the part that your key goes into, but the actual switch which is buried in the steering column near the floor. The switch is about $180 from your Chevy dealer and about $140 from NAPA. Oh yes, it's a couple of hundred dollars for labor from your Chevy dealer.

If you can get it to a dealer or a local auto repair shop, they'll usually diagnose it for you for around $50.

I could be wrong, but that's what it sounds like to me.
