A year or so ago I upgraded my Mom's Compaq from ME to XP. Was on her PC recently, and ran slower than slow. Hmm? Went to task manager and looked at processor and was pegged at 99% usage from second it booted up, running "wkscal.exe". had no clue what was, but could tell it to shut down, and processor went back to about 99% idle, and could use. When tried to shutdown, would get screen pop about "wkscal.exe" needed to do something, and only way to shut down was a hard boot. Hmm? Tried to get tech support from microsoft, but needed some sort of user/member access something or other, and got nowhere. I figured if purchased a license (for XP) and registered online as loaded, would have access to tech support. Perhaps I figured incorrectly. So thinking that "wks" was related to microsoft works, and knowing that Mom never purchased or had works loaded on her PC, I figured what the heck, delete any and all files/folders related to "wks", and that's what I did. Has been running ok since. My sister, the corporate LAN wiz told me that she was going to have someone look into "wkscal.exe", but I haven't heard a word yet. I have no clue what it was or where it came from, but if I do a file/folder search on "wks" on my XP, doesn't exist. Just blew it away on Mom's PC. So much for her online McAfee through AOL. Mark.

At one time I had seven restored examples which were shown and used in ploughing matches. As most restorers, I have a number of war stories I can relate on a range of topics that may help other like minded and interested people. Perhaps my first p
