farmall cub wont start

Hello, Can anyone help me I recently purchased a farmall cub 1948 - The problem started like this - sometimes it would fire right up - it has set for a couple of months now.
Started up hard today put then ran great - I shut it off to do something and then I it was hard to start again put this time it died like it had ran out of gas - value is on - steady stream from gas line to carb. Appears to be leaking gas from the bottom of the carborator.
Unable to get it started at all - ran down 12 volt system attempting to - I had even tried to pull start no luck - I am not a mechanic - but can follow instructions if anyone can give me a hand I would appreciate it.
