To me, a shop manual is the same as a service manual. It tells you what you need to know to dismantle a machine, check for measurable wear to decide to replace parts, and how to install and adjust those parts. A parts manual simply shows the exploded view of how all parts fit together. An Operator/Owner manual ID's the controls, operating systems, lube requirements, etc. Service/Shop manual is for the mechanic making the repairs, and the Parts manual shows all the parts of the machine.
