Just a question, Are you sure the engine has truely been harmed? I work at a Freightliner dealership and see turbo failures all the time, Cummins, Detroit, Caterpillars, and even Mercedes engines. Usually the turbo is replaced, then the charge air cooler (intercooler) is removed and reverse flushed with a steam cleaner or pressure washer. It is then reinstalled and most every one has come out just fine. Is she knocking or making any more noise than usual? Or is it locked up? When unfiltered air enters the engine as you describe, we call it 'dusting' an engine. However the failure is usually in the cylinders, not the turbo. That turbo spins in the neighborhood of 30,000 rpm under boost, so dirt isn't going to be in it long at all, but it will grind at the cylinders and rings. I just thought I would ask some questions, hate to see a truck get killed unnecessarily. Good luck. Chris.
