the guys are right you need the very thick cables....but here's a trick i use many times with 6 volt systems..imeadiately after you have tried the starter , try touching different spots on the cables and connections, a bad connection will be hot...be carefull sometimes they are very HOT.....you will sometimes find the hot spots(bad connections) in areas that you would never guess....if an entire cable is hot its entire length then the cable is way too small to carry the load, or you have a starter draw
