I agree with other posters, not a whole lot of difference between the two, unless you are going to be pulling heavy loads frequently. There is also very little difference in mpg. To me the 4.8 feels as strong as the early to mid 90s 350s, but I think a real factor should be the gear ratio. You could get away with a bit taller ratio with the 5.3 than you could with the 4.8. Either way, ya gotta love the 283 V8 or the 327....I am pretty surprised that GM hasn't played that tune at all....many folks who like old iron remember the old Chevys with 283s and 327s.
