I have an '04 Sierra 1500 reg cab 4wd with 5.3 auto, 3.73 rears. I have no direct experience with the 4.8, but my 5.3 has all the nut I need to haul 7500 lbs of trailer, which is about all it is rated for and all I intend to pull. Mileage not towing on trips is 19+. Be aware earlier motors are rated a little less than the 03 & 04's. I am thrilled with my 5.3.
