The more durable solution is to use a 5 watt wirewound resistor of 25 ohms to about 50 ohms- any value in that range will work fine. IH used 25 ohms in their earliest use of the Delco alternators. Some of the alternator warning lights have the equivalent of about 54 ohms resistance. But I suspect that your particular system has some other problem that results in no-charge.
