I"m late on this reply, Thurlow, because the Mrs. and I just got back from an Alaska cruise on Saturday the 11th, and I"m catching up on the board. We took the train trip to the top from Skagway- $98 each- It was a good tour, narrated, with anecdotes and history. Nice scenery, and was especially interested in being able to see a short section of the actual "Dead Horse Trail" near the top. I did do some calculations, though, and am pretty convinced that being in the White Pass train excursion business is probably more profitable than being in the cruise ship business. Our ship was propelled by the electricity produced by two DC-10 jet engines, and reported mileage was 16 feet to the gallon in average seas.
