OT Coleman lanterns

I bought a couple of Coleman lanterns at a garage sale. After a bit of cleaning, the two mantle one works like a champ. I can"t get the single mantle one to stay lit no matter what. The pump pressurizes the tank and there aren"t any leaks. It lights OK but sputters out after a few minutes. I was told that it is a military style and that those never really work properly. Anyone know if this is true or what a fix might be? I can"t imagine Uncle Sam would keep his troops in the dark. Oops, maybe I shouldn"t have opened that door!
