pull-type snowblower

I am looking at buying a pull-type snowblower. It is in working condition and is $300. Is this a good deal and how effective is a pull-type snowblower, since you have to drive through the snow before it gets blown. Also, without a live PTO does is a pull-type snowblower practical? I have a long driveway and will not be doing a lot of stopping and starting, so will it work?
