Just about every small town throughout the midwest has a very similar attraction. Most of these are associated with, and a part of, the local historical society. The people who visit these museums are for the most part local residents of the community. Occasionally, you will get some visitors who once lived in the community,or have relatives who live there and are visiting. Occasionally you will get a visit from total strangers who just happen to be passing through on there way to somewhere else. As far as being a tourist attraction, I would invite you to visit the Pioneer Village museum, located in Minden, Nebraska. This is a very large and quite interesting museum, filled with early day and even more modern farming and other artifacts. While this is a very interesting place to visit, I don"t think it has ever done very much for the community it is located in, tourists come to visit the museum and then journey on to some place else, most of them pay very little attention to the actual city it is located in.
