I wouldn"t swap spools with another function unless the metering cuts on the spool lands are the same. The metering cuts allow you to "ease" into cylinder movement. If they are not the same, controlability may become an issue with jerkyness. The swapped spool may also bind in the new bore due to differences in fit up. I would make a new spool to replace your existing spool. What is your old spool made from? Does stainless have the same or better yield strength? The pressure working on the lands may fail the "necked down" portions of the spool by simply pushing them apart.
