Case 440 foamy hydraulic oil

I bought a Case 440 the other day. The 3 point hitch wouldn't lift the tiller that was attached and the hyd. pump sounded awful. I thought there might be air in the lines so I cracked open a fitting. Some air "burped" out, but the oil is very foamy even after several hours. Any help would be appreciated. Also , does the trasmission and the hyd.system share the same fluid?
