Depends what kind of disk. If it is an offset type disk and you dont want to lift it up at each turn, you turn left because with the way the disk is set it will "pop" up out of the ground. It also matches your blade throws so you end up with a smooth field when done. For others it just what makes you comfortable. My$.02
