The 4-rib tires seem to have a little better feel hard surfaces (especially roads). They won't tear up the surface as much when you're turning.

On the other hand, the 3-rib tires get more bite out of the center rib for steering and and are less likely to slip sideways on a slope. On wet surfaces (dew on a hay field or after a rain for example) they're less likely to skid when you're turning.

I think you'll like the 4-rib style for haymaking. They won't cut up your hay fields as much when you turn. Keep in mind you may have to slow down a bit to turn uphill in a hayfield, especially if there's a dew.
