The definition of "row crop" varies a bit by manufacturer. All row crop tractors have some means to adjust the rear wheel spacing. If the tractor has a wide front end, then the front wheel spacing is adjustable as well.

With the hundred-series Fords, the row crop (7xx and 9xx) models sit much higher than their standard equivalents. This is done by means of final drive gearboxes that offset the rear wheels from the axles by a few inches. Other manufacturers (such as John Deere) make a distinction between "row crop" and "high crop" tractors.
