Take out the #1 spark plug, (thats the one at the front of the motor) Turn the motor over slowly with the hand crank, (helps to have a friend) while holding your thumb or finger over the spark plug hole. When the piston comes up on compression stroke you will start to feel air pressure. then use a screwdriver or piece of wire or something to determine when the piston reaches it's highest point. That is "top dead center" that is when the points should be just starting to open and which ever hole in the distributer cap the roter is pointing to will be for that plug wire.
