Corn needs a lot of rain at the right times.
Setting & filling that ear of corn requires a lot in
mid summer. As well, corn grows _very_
rapidly during warm humid times, to reach for
the sky. Corn is a grass, so it likes the same
things your lawn likes - N fertilzer, and water.

However, I live in a real wet spot, we get 35" of
moisture a year, have heavy dark soils with a
yellow clay layer for several 100 feet of
subsoil.

Common wisdom is an inch of rain a week to
make good corn during growing season.

I get much better yields with .5" with my local
soils.

This summer have averaged nearly 2".

I have a lot of dead corn. No life preservers.
