Look around XP one of the first things to do is create a set of recovery discs. This is a one time shot as MS prohibits additional copys. Look on the desk top for system recovery, look for creating recovery discs if not permitted your son made them. The XP itself is locked in a partion which is unaltered by other programs. If you can't find any thing contact Microsoft and explain the problem due to your son being unavailable and the XP is registered to that computer I have heard they make exceptions. If they do make the discs [8 on my HP] and keep them in a safe place. Let us know how you make out. Good luck Jake
