Good choice. I have a '97 and like it so well, I plan to keep it forever. No better Diesel engine out there. 127 K on it. It does like to eat brakes, and last March I had to rebuild the butt end (a Dana 70) to the tune of about $3K. Either it was set up wrong at the factory or at some time, when the lube was changed they didn't put in the special limited slip additive. The limited slip clutches disintegrated, overheated, ruined the oil, and took everything else. Took 80K miles to go, tho. Beats the PowerJokes and DuraJaps for durability as it is a real capital equipment diesel engine designed for 65,000 lb GCW trucks and for bulldozers and farm tractors and not just a light duty throw-away consumer product. BTW, the Allison that GM uses in the pickup is watered down and not the real Allison you find in fire trucks, etc. The only real good thing about it is that it has a cool spin-on oil filter and that does give it some class.
