Aaron,
I'm not sure if I'm following your description correctly or not, but you will read continuity through the batt wire to the case normally.The armature has both the ground brush and the positive brush touching it, since all the commutator bars in the armature are connected to each other you will read through the positve brush through the armature to the negative brush which is grounded. The only other variable is that your armature is dead shorted, which you would check by hooking to the commutator and then to the shaft. hope this helps. jstpa
