Ever notice that in an "in-line" 4 or 6 cylinder engine, the Front cylinder is Always worn on the front ( cold water inlet side ) of the cylinder..??
This is caused by that side of that cylinder always running cooler because of the incoming cooler water..!!
Oils lubricate at their best at temps in the 180 to 200 degree range..which might mean the oil temps might be 200 to 240
At less than 160, wear is definitely accelerated--the engine parts are not fully expanded to operating tolerences, etc..
