The costs depends on how much you don't mind being stepped on. The only way to resolve this permanently is to get a real estate lawyer, and, if needed, the courts involved. If you don't, this will never go away. (Plus you should be able to get the other parties affected to chip in.) I think it is better to be proactive and cut him off before he starts moving the road. Once he gets started, then he has a financial investment (like he has with his building now), the "hard feelings" will tbe that much harder! (Where I live out in the sticks, you cannot build a structure, drive a well, etc., within 25 feet of the property line or easement.) This is not a time to pinch pennies!
