I have a Trane XL1000 that is 15 years old. It is a split unit heat pump. Nothing has ever been done to it! Depending on where you live should determine whether you need a heat pump or gas pack. In my opinion, a heat pump is the best for mild climates such as N.W. Alabama where I live. Cheapest way to heat when temp is 40 degrees, and starts being less effecient at lower temps then 40.
