Just like Ron said, but slightly different slant - wait 'til you try to remove that tyre in umpteen years time, when the rust holds it on the rim and the tube is thick with rust stuck to it. Then you will remember you could have done better all those years ago..... and it will still be needing to be done.
Or worse still, needing new rims just for the cost of a coat of paint. It doesn't need to be a fantastic finish, just a practical anti-corrosion treatment.
