carbon cause crimped tail pipe

My IH300 runs great, doesn't burn oil, however the tail pipe, and adjacent rear end areas seem to have more carbon deposits than what I would consider normal. Spark plugs also have carbon deposits. Would some of the mechanical experts care to comment? Also would be interested in the purpose of the dimple in the exhaust tail pipe. My uneducated guess would be that it's purpose would be to direct exhaust heat to the rear end to aid in winter time use warm up.
