Everything except closed-center hydraulics, big hitch lift capacity with lift-assist cylinders (I haven't seen a 1586 carry around a mounted 12-row planter), a powershift transmission, easily adjustable wheel spacing and decent controls. A Deere 4840 handily outshines a 1586 in almost every aspect, and that's coming from a guy that grew up around 86s and bled IH red for 23 years before seeing the light. The 86 was nothing more than a spruced-up 66 with a semi-decent cab. Good reliable tractors that sold well, but too little and too late to run with Deere. The 88s were slightly better (except for the atrocious serviceability of the front-mounted fan set-up - I just had the front cover and one sleeve and piston out of a 5288, so I know of which I speak), but once again, not good enough to compete with the Deere 50-series. This sort of thread is what's known as stirring the pot.
