If it is an old low-compression gasoline engine, and you're frugal (cheap), there should be no problem re-using it. Spray both sides with a copper-bearing gasket spray, following their directions, or just as well, spray both sides with a couple of coats of some cheap aluminum spray paint from Wally World, allowing drying time between coats, and before assembly.

Torque to specs, and re-torque after warming it up.

I've done this often with good results.
