Mine's a 5-speed also behind the Cummins (early model....'93 one-ton dually); about 175,000 miles. Lots of folks have had trouble with the 5-speed Getrag; so far mine hasn't blinked and it's pulled some bad loads. Doesn't have near the torque or HP of the later models, but it's easily the best truck I've ever owned. Talked to the service manager at the local dealer about getting the valve cover gasket replaced....leaking a little oil. Was supposed to have had the valves adjusted 3 or 4 times already; got to get it done, still starts easily and still getting 19 mpg empty. Have torn up every automatic I've ever owned.....'though I've never had one behind a diesel.
