Dad used to keep the pigs in the pen with an electric wire about 3-6" off the ground. Just a single wire. I have success keeping the skunks and racoons out of the sweet corn with a similar arrangement. Most animals will test everything with their nose. Only one test is needed in this case. I've heard that the apple orchards around here can keep the deer out of the orchard with a single wire at about 36". But they have to paint strips of tin foil with peanut butter and lay them over the wire.
