9700 ford

I have a 9700 with 4800 hrs. has duall power. Tractor runs excellent no leaks etc. The problem is in the transmission I think. When running in sixth gear it makes a loud nocking noise. All other gears sound good. Could I just not use sixth and keep on running? I really would like to get it fixed. What might a trans repair or rebuild cost at a dealer. We have a good newholland dealer close by. There are very few guys fixing tractors in my area so the dealer is probably where I would go. I don't want to spend a fortune but wouldn't mind spending a few thousand to get it fixed. Is this in the ball park or could it be much more to repair?
