Deutz fahr, problem!

We are in France, but we are English! Have bought a 2nd hand DX4.70,have a manual on order from this site, now that I have found it!(wonderful), but it wont be here yet!
Just bought (very necessary) hydraulic log splitter, but am unable to get the hydraulics to work the ram on it. The lifting rams on the back of the tractor work ok. The hydraulic pump strains engine, when levers 1 & 2 are moved? Can anyone help please. Thanks.
