With just .5 acres to mow, the John Deere would be a good choice. I would also consider a Snapper rear engine rider with a bagging attachment. These mowers are simple to operate and have one of the best cuts available. I am a commercial cutter and use this mower for my personal yard when time permits. Just study all mowers that you may be intrested in before making a purchase. I hope this helps...
