Starting woes

Hope someone can give me some input on my 9n. Can't seem to get any spark. I've tied some wires together and is hot at the switch but the amm. gauge does'nt respond. It has a point deal that I guess is the regulator? Is it supose to open or close at any time . 1st time here had trouble gettin on a live chat what did I do wrong . Hey thanks in advance if you can help me out. cya Don
