Probably varies from province to province and state to state but here in Manitoba the only place purple (tax exempt) gasoline or diesel can be used is in equipment relating to the farming operation by a bonafide farmer. If you're not a farmer you can't use it in your lawn mower, chain saw etc. or your bush hog tractor or anything else.
