OT- for Neb cowman

How important is branding cattle in Neb? In Co it is all most imposible to sell with out brand. Did I hear some where that Neb no longer checks? Friend has bought a small place in SW Neb, may raise a few calves. I see 5 darn good brands for sale at farm auction next week. If these were Colo and advertised here they would want about 3000 each. At auction they would bring at least 600 to 800. Amy guess price there?
