I prefer brakes on only one axle. If you round a curve and have to brake hard for some reason, all the trailer wheels will lock up and the trailer will slide sideways. If wheels on one of the axles are allowed to keep turning it's like having anti-lock brakes and lets the trailer keep following the direction of the rolling wheels.
