You only have to remove one of the battery cables, As that takes it out of the circuit. As Bob said, if tractor dies then you are running on the battery. Generator or regulator is not functioning properly... All the battery is for is to store energy to start you tractor untill the generator or alt. is supplying energy to run ign. system. My nickel's worth
